Flat Transmission or Drive Belts are sometimes perceived as dated technology, yet the modern flat belt has a major part to play in Industry today.  Modern Flat belting has advantages over other drive methods.  Low initial cost and high efficiency being two important factors.  Textile machines with hundreds of spindles on one frame being driven by a single endless flat belt are but one example.  High speed woodworking machinery, lathes and grinders all need and use the performance and efficiency of flat belt drives.  Large Compressors and Fans can run without the need for multiple belt drives, often with smaller pulleys and shorter centres.  There is no limit to length, many flat belt drives are 20, 30  or 40mts and over in length.  The modern flat belt also works as a shock absorber, protecting valuable equipment in the event of seizure or damage and is easily replaced at comparatively low cost.
